Genus Phoxokalliapseudes View in CoL n. gen.
Type species. Kalliapseudes gobinae Bamber, 1998 View in CoL
Diagnosis. Pleotelson with two terminal long, plumose setae. Antennule first peduncle article with ventral spiniform setae. Antenna last peduncle article with a double row of plumose setae. Labrum with cusps. Mandibular palp terminating in a short, spiniform seta. Cheliped of male with a large spine on inner face of propodus near dactylus insertion. Cheliped and pereopod with exopodite; exopodite with two plumose setae. Pereopods 2 and 3 dactylus with or without proximal sensory lobe. Male pereopod 6 dactylus as long or longer than combined length of ischium, merus, carpus and propodus.
Etymology: Phoxos (Gr.) = pointed, peaked. The name reflects the cusps on the labrum.
Geographic distribution. Indo–Pacific.
Species. Phoxokalliapseudes (= Kalliapseudes ) gobinae ( Bamber, 1998) , Phoxokalliapseudes (= Kalliapseudes ) multiarticulus ( Guţu, 2006) , Phoxokalliapseudes singaporensis n. sp.
Remarks. Phoxokalliapseudes n. gen. has a morphology that is intermediate between Cristapseudes and Kalliapseudes and thus forms a transition between these two genera. The presence of labral cusps is a novel characteristic that was discovered during the course of this research. The terminal plumose setae on the pleotelson and the large spine on the propodus of the male cheliped are additional characters uniting this new genus.
