Mesosphaerum uliginosum (A. St.-Hil. ex Benth.) Kuntze (1891: 527). Type :— BRAZIL. Sao Paulo, “prope Itagui”, A. de Saint Hilaire (holotype P 737373 !; isotype F 92132 !, K 488319 !, P 737374 !, P 737375 !) .

Perennial herbs, procumbent at the base, up to 0.35 m high. Leaves sessile, narrow ovate blade, 2–3 × 0.5–1 cm, acute or obtuse apex, amplexicaul base, glabrous with sessile glands, finely serrate margin. Capitula 0.4–0.9 cm diam., 20–30 flowered, solitary, axillary to superior leaves, peduncle 0.6–2 cm long. Bracteoles 2.5–4 mm long, elliptic, glabrous. Calyx 1.5 mm up to 3 mm in fruit, curving down, exterior pilose with some sessile glands, interior glabrous; teeth deltoid, unequal, the largest one shorter than 0.5 mm. Corolla white or pink color, 3–3.5 mm long. Nutlets ovoid, 0.8 mm long, light brown, smooth.

Distribution and habitat:— Hyptis uliginosa is found in southern Brazil and with an outlying record in N Minas Gerais, and northeastern Argentina in the province of Misiones.
