Male. Reddish-brown to dark brown integument. Body covered with yellowish-brown to grayish brown pubescence except for one or two spots, which are variable in size, at the beginning of posterior half of elytra, which are covered with dark brown pubescence; whitish pubescence in band at base of antennomeres 3–11, on basal half of femora, in a band on median region of tibia and in transverse band at beginning of the apical fourth of elytra; yellowish pubescence covering head, rounded spot behind lower eyes lobes, tufts of pubescence on the pronotum, at apex of tubercles of prothorax, on two longitudinal and parallel bands (or slightly convergent posteriorly) on scutellum, in longitudinal center-basal band on elytra (starting from base to elytral crest), surrounding dark brown spots, in spots on sides of body from prothorax to abdomen, in spots on apical half and at apex of femora and in centro-basal spot on last urotergite. Prothorax, base of elytra and antennomeres 3–11 covered with coarse, short whitish setae, contrasting with remainder of pubescence; scape, legs and ventral surfaces with simliar setae except longer.

Frons flat, lower eyes lobes about two times longer than genae, and two or more erect setae on inner margin. Antennae with scape 1.2 times longer than antennomere 3.

Prothorax 1.6 times wider than long; pronotal disc with two elevated ridges converging anteriorly with a postmedian elevation between them. Scutellum with glabrous, longitudinal and central band, which can extend up to half or to truncate apex. Prosternal process three times narrower than procoxal cavity; mesosternal process slightly depressed; 1.5 times narrower than mesocoxal cavity.

Elytra 3.7 times longer than prothorax; centro-basal crest near suture and longitudinal carina feebly produced; apex truncate.

Measurements (mm). (Male/Female). Total length: 12.9/13; prothorax length: 2.7/2.5; prothorax width: 4.2/ 4.2; elytral length: 9.2/9.3; humeral width: 5.5/5.3.

Type locality. French Guiana, Cayenne. (ZMUC).

Geographical distribution. Guatemala to Panama, Honduras, Venezuela, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Brazil (Amazonas, Pará, Mato Grosso), Peru, Bolivia. This species is newly reported from three states of Brazil (Acre, Bahia and Rondônia).

Hosts. Annonaceae— Rollinia sp.; Euphorbiaceae— Alchornea triplinervia (Spreng.) Müll. Arg. , Hura crepitans L., Sapium paucinervium Hemsl. ; Rubiaceae— Genipa americana L. (Monné, 2001).

Comments. Trypanidius notatus differs from other known species of this genus by the characters mentioned in the key, as well as by the yellowish-brown to grayish brown elytral pubescence with one or two dark brown spots, variable in size, at the beginning of the posterior half, transverse dark brown band at the beginning of the apical fourth and the longitudinal yellowish, centro-basal band (starting from the base to the elytral crest).
