Monotropa uniflora Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 387. 1753.

“Habitat in Marilandia, Virginia, Canada.” RCN: 3056.

Lectotype (Wallace in Wasmann J. Biol. 33: 31. 1975): Kalm, Herb. Linn. No. 551.3 (LINN).

Generitype of Monotropa Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 153. 1929).

Current name: Monotropa uniflora L. (Ericaceae).

Note: Wallace (1975) evidently regarded material in LINN as the type while Wilbur & Luteyn (in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 65: 102. 1978) indicated Clayton 245 (BM), which they had not seen and believed to be instead at LINN, as type. Reveal & al. (in Huntia 7: 228. 1987) provided a detailed review, concluding that the Kalm specimen in LINN should be the type.
