Conservation: CITES – Appendix I as F. c. coryi, F. c. costaricensis , and F. c. couguar ; otherwise Appendix II; U.S. ESA – Endangered as F. c. coryi, F. c. costaricensis , and F. c. couguar ; U.S. ESA – Similarity of Appearance to a Threatened Taxa (Florida); IUCN – Critically Endangered as P. c. couguar and P. c. coryi, otherwise Near Threatened.
Discussion: Reviewed by Currier (1983) as Felis concolor . Placed in Puma by Pocock (1917 a), Weigel (1961), Hemmer (1978), and Kratochvíl (1982 c). Synonyms allocated according to Culver et al. (2000).
