30. Appias epaphia epaphia ( Cramer, 1779) View in CoL

WL: 25mm. Common throughout most of tropical Africa, this species occurs in dry areas and degraded biotopes. In Guinea-Bissau it is uncommon, but can be seasonally and locally abundant. The nominate subspecies flies from Senegal to Nigeria and onward to Angola, Uganda and western Kenya. The host-plants consist of several Capparaceae ( Capparis , Maerua , Boscia, Niebuhria and Ritchiea ) and Cleome sp. ( Cleomaceae ). The latter is a garden-plant cultivated in several African towns around which the species may be common.

Studied material. Cacheu: Caió, common at the beginning of November (JB).
