The species was recorded from China as Cryptochironomus demeijerei (Kruseman) by Wang and Wang (1991) based on larvae from the Liaoning Province in Palaearctic China. The species was included as Robackia demeijerei (Kruseman) View in CoL in the checklist of chironomids from China ( Wang 2000). However, as the larvae material is not available the record could not be verified.
The species has a Holarctic distribution.
