Remarks. Benedek (1969, 1970) has mentioned V. mancinii from ‘Báziás’ [= Baziaș] as being in Yugoslavia; however, it is in Romania. This record is based on Horváth’s (1897) material misidentified as V. rivulorum . The occurrence of V. mancinii mancinii in Romania is now confirmed. We found it only in south-western Romania, in the limestone landscape of the Danubian Gorge, in small streams and occasionally small ponds or springs at altitudes ranging between 80 and 300 m a.s.l., but also in the Mehedinți and Cernei Mountains at altitudes exceeding 600 m a.s.l. ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ). In those mountains, V. serbica occurs at lower altitudes. Velia mancinii mancinii often coexists with Aquarius najas ( De Geer, 1773) (Gerridae) ; we also found it co-occurring with V. saulii .
General distribution. Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Romania ( Tamanini 1951; Josifov 1986; Andersen 1995; Kment & Beran 2011; this paper).
