(a) Subsp. villosa ( Gelosia villosa (Scop.) Cass. ): Leaves not or scarcely callose at apex. At least the outer achenes with spinulose-dentate or acutely lamellate ribs. Pappus-hairs scabrid, the projections c. 0- 1 mm. Throughout the range of the species except S. Italy and the islands.
