Type Locality: Venezuela, Mérida State, La Loma del Morro, 3000 m.
Vernacular Names: Merida Aepeomys.
Synonyms: Aepeomys ottleyi (Anthony 1932) .
Distribution: Mérida Andes of Venezuela to Andean Ecuador.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Karyotype (2n = 28) reported by Aguilera et al. (2000), who noted its strong divergence from other Venezuelan series (2n = 44) later described as A. reigi (see next). Voss et al. (2002) confirmed the allocation of ottleyi as an example of A. lugens .
