Type: —On Carex atrata L., AUSTRIA, Styria, at the top of Mt. Schneealpe, alt. c. 1900 m, 29 June 1992, H. Prillinger (strain HB 3 T, Yeast Culture Collection, Austrian Center of Biological Resources and Applied Mycology, Vienna, ACBR, sin. num., holotype).

Known host and distribution: —On Cyperaceae : Carex atrata ; Europe ( Austria) ( Prillinger et al. 2009: 157, Vánky 2011: 1339).

Comments: — Schizonella caricis-atratae is a cryptic species. It is morphologically identical with S. melanogramma but differs in molecular phylogenetic and physiological characters ( Prillinger et al. 2009, Vánky 2011, Prillinger & Lopandic 2015).

A dried specimen of Schizonella caricis-atratae is kept at the herbarium of the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Australia (BRIP, as H.U.V. 21538).
