2 Catasticta sisamnus (Fabricius, 1793) View in CoL (TL: Not stated. [ Panama])
(fig.4: a-f; fig. 13)
Catasticta sisamnus View in CoL is known from the Cordillera de Mérida, where Catasticta sisamnus merida Eitschberger & Racheli, 1998 View in CoL (TL: Venezuela, env. de Mérida) was described. The species is widespread, usually uncommon and encountered as single specimens, although on some occasions it has been reported in numbers. The elevational range is 900 to 2000 meters.
Even though Catasticta sisamnus View in CoL is not yet reported from El Tamá, we think it likely that the species occurs there, since several specimens have been collected near S. Cristóbal, between 900 and 1500 meters.
Specimens recently collected by Steve Fratello on Mt. Ayanganna ( Guyana) represent a new subspecies, being both differentiable and geographically distinct. This population does not fall within the political boundaries of Venezuela, but its occurrence on the tepuis of eastern Venezuela is highly probable.
