Scolothrips rhagebianus Priesner View in CoL

Described originally from Egypt this species appears to be widespread in the tropics; it is recorded from Cape Verde to South Africa to South-Japan and Australia ( Mound 2011; Masumoto et al. 2012b). It is a predator of several spider mite species and could possibly be used for biological control ( Zur Strassen 1995). A single female was intercepted from Ethiopia at the flower auction in Rijnsburg, 4.ii.2005, Rosa —cut flower (J.G. de Zeeuw). Identification of this specimen was confirmed by Dr. R. zur Strassen, 21.iv.2009.
