Aeolothrips collaris Priesner View in CoL

This is a common species in the Mediterranean Area, and is recorded from the Azores to Mongolia and eastern China (Zhejiang). It is restricted to sub-tropical and semi-arid Regions ( Zur Strassen 2003, Mirab-Balou et al. 2011), but it is not known from the Afrotropical Region. It has been introduced to USA, California ( Hoddle et al. 2004). A. collaris occurs in flowers of many plant genera, but larvae are rarely found. In the Netherlands larvae of this species have been intercepted once, on Eryngium cut flowers imported from Israel in 2000. It can be regarded as an invasive species. The first interception record from Ethiopia was at Venlo, 19.xii.2004, on Rosa —cut flower, 2 females (H. Lemmen).
