Red Sea main basin: Egypt ( Klunzinger 1870, as Mugil crenilabis ), Sudan ( Fowler 1931, as Mugil crenilabis ), Eritrea ( Ben-Tuvia 1975), Saudi Arabia ( Roux-Estève & Fourmanoir 1955, as Mugil crenilabis ).
General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Marshall , Marquesas and Gambier islands, possibly east to Hawaiian Islands .
