Type data: Friese proposed this species based on an undetermined number of male and female specimens collected by the German explorer, insect trader and entomologist Hans Fruhstorfer (1866–1922) in the Brazilian states of Amazonas and Minas Gerais. A single male collected in this latter state was found at ZMB, being here designated the lectotype. The specimen has the following data label: [green label with black rim] Minas Geraës Brasil 1897 ex. coll. Fruhstorfer [printed]\ Coll. Friese [printed]\ [red label] Typus [printed]\ Centris breviceps Fr ♂ [handwrit-ten 1909 Friese det. [printed]\ [light blue label] LECTOTYPE Centris breviceps Friese, 1899 des. F. Vivallo, 2017 [printed] ( ZMB). The current condition of the paralectotypes is unknown.

Type locality: Brazil: Minas Gerais state (“Minas Geraës”) .

Comments: Both sexes have the pubescence on the dorsal surface of the mesosoma and on vertex with conspicuous black tips and the clypeus broadly and deeply depressed across lower half of the disc. This species was correctly interpreted by Snelling (1984) and Moure et al. (2007).
