Material examined. Holotype male: FINLAND, Le (Lapponia enontekiensis), Utsjoki, Skaidejohka (777:53), 12.VIII.1985, J. Tuiskunen ( MZH). Paratypes: FINLAND, Le, Enontekiö, Kilpisjärvi, Saana, 15.–30.VII.1967, A. Suormala, 2 ɗ ( MZH), same data but 16.–30.VII.1967, 2 ɗ ( MZH), Lk (Lapponia kemensis), Sodankylä, IsoOja (756:60), 9.VIII.1985, J. Tuiskunen, 1 ɗ ( MZH), Lk, Rovaniemen mlk, Lomalamminoja (7367781:3418828), Malaise trap, 28.VIII.–3.X.2004, J. Salmela, 1 ɗ ( PJSC), RUSSIA, Polar Ural, Krasnyi Kamen, 66° 55’ N, 65° 40’ E, pitfall trap, 3.–17.VII.1994, S. Koponen, 1 ɗ ( MZH).
Description (male). — Head: Eye bridge 2 or 3 facets wide. Prefrons with 4–8 setae, clypeus nonsetose or with 1 seta. Length/width of flagellomere 4 of antenna 2.0–2.35. Segment 1 of maxillary palp with 1 or 2 setae ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A). Thorax: Anterior pronotum with 2–4 setae, episternum 1 with 4–6 setae. Wing: Wing length 1.6–1.7 mm, width/length 0.40–0.45. c/w 0.65–0.85, R1/R 0.60–1.0. Legs: Apex of front tibia, Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 D; apex of hind tibia, Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C. Length of front basitarsomere/length of front tibia 0.55–0.60. Abdomen: Sternite 8 with 7–10 setae. Hypopygium: Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 . Sternite 10 with seta on each half.
Female: Unknown.
Etymology. The species epithet is dedicated to the arachnologist Dr. Seppo Koponen, known to his friends as ‘Sepe’, of the Zoological Museum, University of Turku, in recognition of his contribution in collecting many new species of Sciaridae throughout the Holarctic Region.
