Synonyms
Echiniscus osellai Maucci, 1974 View in CoL syn. nov.
Echiniscus storkani Bartoš, 1940 View in CoL : Gąsiorek et al. (2019b)
Terra typica : France.
Etymology: From Latin tres = three + saetōsus = bristly, referring to the presence of three trunk cirri (C, Cd, D) on each side of the body. An adjective in nominative singular.
Shortened description. Medium-sized to large (ca. 250–380 μm, typically 300–350 μm). Body appendage configuration A-C-Cd- D-Dd ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 ), all but Dd cirrous, and Dd –spiniform. See E. blumi above for the remaining characters.
Phylogenetic position: Echiniscus trisetosus is firmly located at the base of the Echiniscus phylogenetic tree (Figs 1–2).
Remarks: Echiniscus osellai Maucci, 1974 syn. nov. has an identical chaetotaxy and sculpturing ( Figs 5G–I View FIGURE 5 ) as E. trisetosus , and there are no discriminative criteria between these two species. Besides, as above for E. blumi .
