Palaeoglaesum notandum View in CoL sp. nov.
( Fig. 7e View FIGURE 7 )
Etymology. name based on (notandus, latin) the setation of legs.
Diagnosis. Palaeoglaesum species with elongate gonocoxites and slightly bent gonostyli; basal tarsus segment of fore legs short, with numerous curved long setae.
Material. BUB 733 in coll. Müller.
Geological stratum. Burmese amber.
State of preservation. Specimen well preserved, right side legs missing.
Syninclusions. 1 male of a cecidomyid-like Diptera .
Description. Head in lateral view elongate, eyes oval, no eye-bridge; labium strong, slightly shorter than head height. Relative length of scape, pedicel and flagellomeres of right antenna: 7-16-54 -31.5-32-34-31-34-30-26-22- 24-23-19-19-20; absolute length: 0.04-0.09-0.31-0.18-0.18-0.19-0.18-0.19-0.17-0.15-0.13-0.14-0.13-0.11-0.11- 0.11 mm. Antennae with coat of setae. Ascoids not discernable. Palpus 4-segmented with relative lengths: 21-22.5- 35-62; absolute lengths: 0.12-0.13- 0.20-0.35mm.
Head length 0.30 mm; thorax length 0.74; abdomen without genitalia 1.04 mm; length of genitalia 0.35 mm.
Thorax. Fore tibia slightly thickened; basal tarsus segment of fore legs remarkable with numerous curved long setae, segment stronger and about half as long as the same segments of middle and hind legs; mid femur in basal half with single row of straight setae on hind side; setae on legs basally long, decreasing in length distally. No bristles on legs.
Wing length 2.22 mm. End of Sc not visible, R2+3 approximately as long as R2, R5 ends behind wing tip between R4 and R5; fork R2/3 almost in middle of wing.
Abdomen with 8 segments and genitalia. Gonocoxites cylindrical, slightly curved, basally wider than distally; gonostyli about 1.5 times longer than gonocoxites, slightly bent; distal half abruptly thinner than basal half, slightly curved. Aedeagus and parameres not discernable; epandrium flat, elongate, rectangular; cerci oval; remainder of proctiger not clearly discernable, ovoid.
Comments. This species is most readily distinguished by the setae covering the entire body, elongate gonocoxites, slightly bent gonostyli and unique basal tarsal segment of the foreleg. The elongate, dorsoventrally compressed epandrium is similar to those of other Burmese amber Bruchomyiinae .
