Etymology. The new genus is dedicated to Christel and Hans Werner Hoffeins (Hamburg) who motivated the study of amber Bruchomyiinae , providing interesting specimens over many years. Gender is feminine.

Species included: H. obtusa sp. nov., H. bifida sp. nov., H. longicauda sp. nov., H. reducta sp. nov., H. cubicula sp. nov., H. hoffeinsi ( Wagner, 2006) .

Diagnosis. Bruchomyiinae with head in dorsal view about triangular, wide in front, narrower towards thorax; eyes oval, interocular distance approximately 8–10 facet diameters; antenna with scape, pedicel and 14 elongate flagellomeres; palpus 4-segmented. Wing with Sc terminating in C or R1, most species with sc-r or sc-c crossvein; radial fork distal of medial fork; M1+2 short or non-existing, M3 and M4 diverge at m-cu crossvein. Genitalia inverted by torsion of segments 7 and 8, gonocoxites and hypandrium fused to a large cross sclerite with the midsection overlapping gonostyli and parameres; gonostyli reduced in size, simple or bilobed, epandrium mostly cup-shaped, posterior strongly emarginate, posterolateral lobes prolonged, unarticulated; proctiger elongate tubular, large compared to other bruchomyiine genera, slightly sclerotized, extends from middle and inferior to the epandrial concavity; cerci small ovoidal.
