Figs. 450, 494, map 1.

Holotype (female): Papua New Guinea, Morobe Prov.: New Guinea (NE), Wau [7° 20' S, 146° 45' E], Morobe Dist., 1200 m, 21.IV.1963, J. Sedlacek, depository: Bernice P. Bishop Museum, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA ( BPBM). GoogleMaps

Diagnosis. P. wau is similar to P. finister in that the subgenital plate is divided in midline by a membranous area and the lobes on proximal and lateral surfaces shallowly grooved. It differs from the latter by the lobes of the subgenital plate being triangular with subacute apex, the internal margin more concave, and the internal angle where both lobes meet not projecting ( Figs. 450, 494). Differences to other species are outlined in the key.

Description. Fastigium verticis in front of eyes 1.1 mm, from base 1.4 mm; dorsal eye length 1.5 mm; greatest diameter of eye 1.7 mm; index fastigium verticis from base: eye length 1.0. Face rugose but shining. Tegmen surpassing apices of hind femora; gradually narrowed behind basal widening. Femora with the following number of spines on ventral margins: fore femur 9 external, 6 internal; mid femur 6 external, 3 internal near base; hind femur 9–10 external, 5 minute internal near base.

Male unknown.

Female. Tenth abdominal tergite furrowed in midline [damaged]. Subgenital plate divided in midline by triangular membranous area; resulting lateral plates triangular, oblique; with lateral margins convex and longer than concave internal margins ( Figs. 450, 494).

Coloration. General colour yellowish brown. Face with black band between eyes including scapus; with another black band along clypeo-frontal suture extended on genae; a vertical band in midline reddish brown. Tegmen with pattern of dark cells and light veinlets little distinct.

Measurements of female: body 27; pronotum 7.8; tegmen 27.5; hind femur 18; ovipositor 17.5 mm.

Etymology. Named after the type locality; noun in apposition.
