Taxonomic note: This species is in the genus Distenia in recent identification manuals (e.g., Lingafelter 2007; Yanega 1996), but was moved to its current genus by Santos-Silva and Hovore (2007).

Distribution: NY to central FL to central TX to eastern NE. Most Kentucky records are from the eastern two thirds of the state (Map 049).

Larval host plants: Mines between the bark and wood of dead and dying roots of a variety of hardwoods including Carya , Cercis canadensis and Ulmus ( Craighead 1923) and Pinus ( Lingafelter 2007)

Comments: A summer species with most records from July and August. Attracted to lights and fermenting sugar.
