Taxonomic note: Brachyleptura champlaini Casey was recently synonymized under B. brevis by Bousquet et al. (2017).

Distribution: NS to northern FL to eastern TX to MN. All Kentucky specimens are from the eastern third of the state (Western Allegheny Plateau and the two Appalachian ecoregions; Map 022).

Adult flower hosts: Achillea , Hydrangea arborescens and Tragopogon ( Lingafelter 2007) and Aruncus , Castanea , Ceanothus and Spiraea ( Bousquet et al. 2017)

Comments: Adults are diurnal and often found on flowers.
