TYPE LOCALITY: Madagascar, Betsaka, 12 mi inland from Majunga .
DISTRIBUTION: E Madagascar, between Ankarafantsika and Antsalova.
STATUS: CITES - Appendix I; U.S. ESA - Endangered; IUCN - Rare.
SYNONYMS: rufescens .
COMMENTS: Includes rufescens , which Petter and Petter (1977:7) considered a distinct species.
