Kaufman et al. (2012) collected an unknown larva of this genus in a sediment core from Lone Spruce Pond in the Southwestern bioregion. We collected a larva from the Yukon River near Nulato and from Desper Creek in Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge. The larvae of Demicryptochironomus inhabit sandy and muddy substrates of lakes and rivers ( Epler et al. 2013).
