Trichotanypus Kieffer, 1906 View in CoL
The larvae of this genus live among mosses of lotic and lentic habitats ( Saether & Andersen 2013). The first record of Trichotanypus in Alaska was an adult Trichotanypus alaskensis Brundin 1966 collected near Utqiagvik in late June ( Wirth & Sublette 1970). Lougheed et al. (2011) reported that T. alaskensis is common in tundra ponds near Utqiagvik. Lackmann and Butler (2018) also reported the larva of T. alaskensis from tundra ponds near Utqiagvik. The adult specimens of Trichotanypus foliaceus Wirth & Sublette, 1970 were collected from Ogotoruk Creek in early August. Trichotanypus mariae Wirth & Sublette, 1970 adults were collected around Contact Creek near Anaktuvuk Pass in mid-July. The larvae of Trichotanypus have been reported from Caribou Creek, a tributary to the Sanctuary River in Denali NP ( Arctos 2023). Tilley (1978) collected several larvae of Trichotanypus from the Dietrich and Atigun Rivers in the Brooks Range. We also collected several unknown larvae from Shaw Creek in Central Alaska in 2005 and from a small unnamed tundra pond near Utqiagvik in 2013.
