Subfamily Diamesinae View in CoL View at ENA
The species of this subfamily are prevalent in clean, cool arctic-alpine waters, but less abundant in the lowlands. We have documented 9 genera and 33 species of Diamesinae in Alaska compared to 7 species from the Southeastern United States ( Hudson et al. 1990). Fifteen of 32 Diamesinae species were collected from the Southcoastal region. The genus Diamesa , with 18 species, contains most of this subfamily’s taxa in Alaska.
