Centris perforator Smith, 1874 View in CoL . 370, 371.

Type data: This species was described based on an undetermined number of male specimens collected in Pernambuco state, northeastern Brazil. A syntype was found at NHMUK being here designated the lectotype. The specimen has the following data label: Type H. T. [red-rimmed circular label, printed]\ B.M. TYPE HYM. [printed] 17b 1171 [handwritten]\ [circular label] Braz [handwritten]\ Centris perforator Smith (Type) . [handwritten]. The lectotype is in good condition and is coded NHMUK 010812625 in the NHMUK data portal.

Type locality: Brazil: Pernambuco state .

Comments: Smith (1874) mentioned erroneously the sex of the specimen(s) described. This species has been misidentified for a long time, considering it to be a junior synonym of C. fuscata Lepeletier, 1841 . The type material of this latter species is housed at MNHP and its detailed study showed that both are valid species, in spite of their superficial similarity.
