Distribution of Cephalocyclus
Cephalocyclus fuliginosus is found in the states of Guanajuato, Distrito Federal, Puebla, Oaxaca, Durango (Refugio), and Morelos (Cuernavaca), between 1,850 –2,400 m of altitude. C. gravidus has been collected in the State of Mexico (Temascaltepec) at an altitude of more than 2,000 m. C. ludiventris has been collected in Oaxaca state (La Parada and Yolos), Puebla state (Cinco Señores), and Distrito Federal, all between 1,220 –2,400 m. Cephalocyclus mexicanus is found in Durango, Oaxaca (Parada, Etla, Juquila), Puebla, Distrito Federal, Morelos, and Guatemala (Totonicapam) between 1,200 –3,050 m. Cephalocyclus punticeps has been collected in Puebla (Chalchicomula) at 2,560 m. Cephalocyclus villosipes has been recorded in Hidalgo state (Zacualtipan) and Oaxaca above 1,800 m ( Bates, 1886 –1889; Deloya et al. 1993) and C. stebnickae has been obtained in Chiapas state (11 mi N of Teopisca) above 2,000 m. Mexican localities are PinusQuercus forest between 1,500 – 2,500 m altitude. With exception of C. mexicanus , all the species can be considered as endemic to Mexico (Bates 1887; Dellacasa et al. 1998; Deloya 1998).
