Gisekia pharnacioides Linnaeus, Mantissa Plantarum Altera: 562. 1771.

“Habitat in India orientali.” RCN: 2233.

Lectotype (Jeffrey in Hubbard & Milne-Redhead, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Aizoaceae: 5. 1961; Hedge & Lamond in Rechinger, Fl. Iranica 114: 2. 1975): Herb. Linn. No. 399.1 (LINN).

Generitype of Gisekia Linnaeus.

Current name: Gisekia pharnacioides L. (Molluginaceae).

Note: Jeffrey (in Hubbard & Milne-Redhead, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Aizoaceae: 5. 1961), Tardieu-Blot (in Aubréville, Fl. Cambodge Laos Vietnam 5: 91. 1967) and Nasir (in Nasir & Ali, Fl. W. Pakistan 41: 10. 1973) all indicated unspecified material at LINN as type. However, these statements are ineffective in distinguishing between sheets 399.1 and 399.2 (LINN). Adamson (in J. S. African Bot. 27: 133. 1961) concluded that the type was lost, and selected a neotype from Herb. Montin (S). However, original material exists for the name so neotypification is not possible. The two LINN sheets appear to be duplicates so, under Art. 9.15, Jeffrey (1961) is accepted as having been the first to typify the name, with Hedge & Lamond (1975) restricting his choice to 399.1 (LINN).
