Smetana, 1995a: 240 ( Quedius ; subgenus Microsaurus ; Type locality: China, Gansu, Mts. 25 km E Xiahe, 2805–2925 m; Gansu, Sichuan); Smetana, 2001: 200 (key to species from China); Herman, 2001: 3221 (world catalog); Smetana, 2004: 660 (catalog for Palaearctic region); Smetana, 2006: 68 (Yunnan); Zheng and Zheng, 2006: 176.

Material examined. CHINA: Sichuan Province: 1 ♂, Kangding County, Mugecuo, 3800 m, 23. V. 2009, coll. Yulingzi Zhou (IZ-CAS).

Measurements. BL = 9.8 mm, BW = 2.0 mm, HL/PL/EL = 1.00: 1.26: 1.66, HW/PW/EW/AW = 1.00: 1.31: 1.52: 1.39, HW/HL = 1.03, HEL/HTL = 1.10, PW/PL = 1.08, EW/EL = 0.95, ESL/EL = 0.56.

Distribution. Quedius nireus Smetana is known from high mountains in southwestern China (Gansu, Sichuan and Yunnan Province), at high altitudes between 2805 m and 3800 m. The examined specimen was collected in May in a Rhododendron forest.
