Selman Parker, 1929 View in CoL
Selman Parker, 1929:20 View in CoL . Type species: Selman angustus Parker, 1929 View in CoL (= Monedula notata Taschenberg, 1870 ), by original designation.
The monotypic genus Selman View in CoL was proposed by Parker (1929), having as type species Selman angustus View in CoL , a species newly described by him based on two females from Mato Grosso, Brazil. Parker (1929) considered his new genus related to Stictia View in CoL , a position also sustained by Willink (1947). Bohart & Menke (1976) placed Selman View in CoL in a group containing Rubrica View in CoL , Editha View in CoL and Stictia View in CoL , with Selman View in CoL placed as a sister to Editha View in CoL plus Stictia View in CoL . Based on a preliminary analysis of the relationships within this group, we believe that Selman View in CoL is more closely related to Editha View in CoL (Rosa & Melo, unpubl. data).
