DISTRIBUTION. — Global distribution: Indonesia, Philippines, New Caledonia and the western Indian Ocean; live in 470-1570 m ( Boissevain 1906), mostly in 540-700 m (Scarabino 1995). Distribution in the New Caledonian region: north, east and southeast coasts of New Caledonia proper, Loyalty Basin, live in 470-591 m, shells in 250-2365 m.
REMARKS. — Compressidentalium compressiusculum is closely related to C. clathratum . The specimens of the two species available for the present study were collected in nearby stations of the same expedition but were never present in the same lot. The species are thus at present considered broadly sympatric but are apparently never syntopic.
