sparse growth lines. Maximum diameter at anterior 1/3 of shell, tapering regularly to aperture. Apex small, circular, fragile, with 4 notches creating 4 lobes. Dorsal and ventral lobes wider than lateral ones. Preapical callus thin, lumen circular. Oral aperture slightly laterally compressed.
Measurements of holotype: L 12, W 1.7, mouth 1.2, w 0.5.
REMARKS. — The closest species to Polyschides cayrei is P. pelamidae (Chistikov, 1979) , but P. cayrei is less curved, has a more regular outline and the oral constriction is not so obvious. All specimens had the lobes broken, but their traces are clearly visible under a lens.
ETYMOLOGY. — Named after Patrice Cayré, formerly head of IRD’s Département des Ressources Vivantes, for his support of taxonomy and biodiversity explorations.
