Habitat. Intertidal, reef flats, seagrass beds, and mangrove areas, on rocky, sandy, mud-sand and coralline substrates.
Remarks. Clibanarius philippinensis , described from the Philippines by Yap-Chiongco (in Estampador, 1937), was tentatively synonymised with Cl. virescens by Haig & Ball (1988) due to similarities in morphology and colouration. Type material of Cl. philippinensis was destroyed during World War II ( Estampador, 1959) thus a comparison of specimens is not possible. Clibanarius virescens is very abundant in the intertidal zone.
