MARIANNE CRAMER, 1779

Pap[ilio] Dan[aus] Cand[idus] marianne Cramer, 1779: 41 , 175, pl.217, figs C, D, E [original plate 186, figs B, B, C]. ‘Côte de Coromandel’ [= south-eastern India] (Baron Rengers).

Papilio View in CoL Danaus View in CoL Candidus marianne, Stoll, 1782b: 5 [No. 4].

Material examined. 3 ♂, no data, ex Felder collection are all a good match for original plate 186, figs B, B, but this is not surprising in this species; one ( BMNH (E)#665125) appears to have been re-pinned, it is set with the wings at a lower angle than the other two; the other two have damaged thoraces but no clear evidence of re-pinning. There is insufficient evidence to treat any of these as syntypes although specimen BMNH (E)#665125 looks older and may have a better claim .

Current status. Valid species in Ixias ( Sutton, 2002) .
