NOTES: In the description of this variety in New varieties of Mycetozoa from Japan, G. Lister (1933a: 221) commented that she had received from Dr. H. Hattori “some interesting specimens of Mycetozoa gathered last summer [1932] at Nasu, in the Tochigi prefecture, by the Emperor himself” and later states “This form of Arcyria pomiformis sent by Dr. Hattori consists of scattered and nearly sessile dull buff-coloured sporangia, seated on lichen ( Parmelia sp. ) and bark of a living trunk of Cornus controversa Hemsley ”.

Two boxes were found in BM. The first is BM 4170 , designated here as the lectotype as it is in good condition and also has anotated the bibliographic reference to the original description ( G. Lister 1933a). The other has no number but comes from the same locality and substrate but with a different date “ July 31, 1932 ”. In the notebook ( XLV: 185–187) both collections are mentioned, illustrated and with a micrograph (sent by Hattori). These collections were gathered by the Emperor of Japan (Hirohito 1901–1989), an active collector and enthusiast of myxomycetes, and sent to Gulielma Lister through Prof. H. Hattori. This variety is currently included in the concept of the species .
