Plecia nigra argentina Hardy 1953: 353 . Holotype: male (IFML), Argentina, Tucumán Prov., El Infiernillo.

Holotype: female (no type specimens found in MNNC, MNHN, NHMUK, NMPC, or OUMNH, presumably lost; see Discussion), Chile, close to Corral. Dist. : Chile. Región de Los Ríos: Valdivia Province (close to Corral). Argentina: Tucumán Province (El Infiernillo; see Hardy, 1953).

Comments: It is necessary to check the taxonomic status of the proposed Argentinian subspecies. The distributional areas are quite different, as the nominal subspecies is distributed in a rainy temperate habitat and the Argentinian subspecies was described for an arid high Andean environment.
