Type Locality: Indonesia, Sumatra, "Pager Alam, Padang Highlands".
Vernacular Names: Sumatran Water Shrew.
Distribution: Streams in tropical forest of Sumatra.
Conservation: IUCN – Critically Endangered.
Discussion: Regarded as a race of phaeura by Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1966:87), but considered distinct by Harrison (1958) and Gureev (1979), a view supported by its cranial anatomy.
