Typhlodromips De View in CoL View at ENA Leon
Typhlodromips De Leon, 1965: 23 View in CoL .
Typhlodromips View in CoL . — Moraes et al., 1986: 135, 2004b: 205; Beard, 2001: 132; Chant & McMurtry, 2005c: 323, 2007: 61.
Type species. Typhlodromus (Typhlodromopsis) simplicissimus De Leon, 1959a: 117 .
Main distinguishing characteristics. Dorsal shield with pronounced constriction next to R1, usually reticulate, although some species with only patches of striation, being mostly smooth or ornamented with elements of variable shapes. Idiosomal setal pattern 10A:9B/JV-3:ZV (except for T. extrasetus Moraes et al. , 10A:10B/JV-3:ZV, with J1); dorsal shield setae of similar lengths (except Z5 and, less often, Z4), often shorter than distance to closest setae; r3 and/or R1 never on dorsal shield. Sternal shield with posterior margin usually straight or concave. Ventrianal shield usually pentagonal; vase-shaped in some species. Spermathecal calyx highly variable, saccular, tubular, bell-, cup-, disc-, funnel- or trumpet-shaped. Fixed and movable cheliceral digits with 7–16 and 2–4 teeth, respectively. Macrosetae present only on legs III–IV, but in some species also on other legs; usually sharp-tipped, occasionally blunt or capitate. Male ventrianal shield usually with three pairs of pre-anal setae (occasionally four); spermadactyl penile, L- or wand-shaped.
Remarks. Twenty-two of the 105 species presently included in this genus have been reported from Brazil, of which the most common is T. mangleae De Leon. Worldwide, species of this genus have been reported mostly from plants, rarely from the soil or moss.
