ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850c: 187.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insulae S. Sebastiani [ San Sebastian Island ( Brazil)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MRSN: Box 1755): Asilus Lin tibialis Rndn., Ins. S. Sebast. Gené / holotype “ Asilus tibialis Rond., N. Papavero det. [19]72 / Asilus tibialis Rond. 1850: 187 , Ins . S. Seb.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus of Asilidae ( Martin & Papavero 1970: 91) View in CoL ; junior primary homonym of Asilus tibialis Fabricius 1794 View in CoL and junior synonym of Eraxasilus luctuosus (Macquart, 1838) ( Papavero 2009: 26) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 187) described Asilus tibialis from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui. Nelson Papavero examined the MRSN material in 1972 and labeled the single female as “ holotype ” but, as far as we know, he never indicated this specimen as holotype in any of his publication. We consider it as a syntype because Rondani did not specify he had a single specimen.
