Trupanea cyprica Rondani, 1856

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 159.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but later (1863: 49) added “ Insula Cypri [ Cyprus Island]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Promachus cypricus ( Lehr 1988: 276) .

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 159) key for the genus Trupanea Macquart, 1839 lists Trupanea cyprica as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. Rondani (1856: 159) attributed the species name to Bellardi who sent him the material. Rondani (1863: 48) included this nominal species under the generic name Telejoneura Rondani, 1863 ( Trupanea in the index, p. 98). We could not locate any type specimens of this nominal species during this study.
