CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Chirosia histricina ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 36) View in CoL .
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 169) described Chorthophila histricina from an unspecified number of males: “ Bis marem legi [I collected the male twice]”. The female numbered “1232” is not included in the type series because of its sex. Rondani named the species as “ hystricina ” in his key (p. 159) and as “ histricina ” in his description (p. 169) and index (p. 216). Acting as First Reviser (according to I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 24.2.4), Rondani (1877c: 203, 225), determined “ histricina ” as the correct original spelling. Hennig (1967b: 153) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (2 ♂♂). Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Chorthophila , which is an “unjustified emendation of Chortophila Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 57).
