ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 140 (key), 141 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills and plains ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 25): Hydrophoria Desv. / anthomyiea [sic!] Rndn., ♂, Parma / 1362; 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUF: Box 25): Hydrophoria Desv. / anthomyiea [sic!] Rndn., ♀, Parma / 1363; 1 ♂, syntype (covered with mold) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Hydrophoria Mg. anthomyea R. 472 ♂ Apenn. [= Apennines] / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 6, posiz. A-15 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani; 1 ♂, syntype ( MSNPV: Box 93): Hydrophoria anthomyiea [sic!] Rndn., 578, ♂, Apenn. [= Apennines].

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Hydrophoria ruralis ( Meigen, 1826) View in CoL ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 63, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 7).

REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 141) described both sexes of Hydrophoria anthomyea from an unspecified number of specimens. Five syntypes were found in this study. The males and the female in the MZUF have different identification numbers.
