ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 204 (key), 205 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype (missing right antenna and left fore-leg) ( MZUF: Box 14): Brachicoma Rnd. / metopiella Rnd. / 696 / 20 Lugl. [= July] / holotype ♀, Brachicoma metopiella Rnd., T. Pape det., 1986 / Phrosinella nasuta (Mg.) , T. Pape det., 1986.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Verves 1986: 114); junior synonym of Phrosinella nasuta ( Meigen, 1824) View in CoL ( Pape 1988: 10, 1996: 124).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 205) described Brachicoma metopiella from just the female sex, giving a single measurement of length: “ Semel capta foemina [Collected the female once]”. A MSNC male is not included in the type series because of its sex. Pape (1988: 10) considered the single MZUF female as the holotype .
