ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 40.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Patria ignota [Country unknown]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Gen. Grallomyia a Celiphus): Nerius extorris Rnd. / M. Zool. N° 11469.

CURRENT STATUS: no Diptera View in CoL catalog lists it; doubtful species of Nerius Fabricius, 1805 View in CoL (A. Pereira Colavite, pers. comm., February 2013).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 40) described Nerius extorris from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from G. De Cristoforis. Costa (1866: 34) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “736”. We also found one syntype in this study.
