ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 209 (key), 211 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Melita [ Malta]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype ( MZUF: Box 26): Lispe Latr. / meridionalis Rndn. , ♂, nana / 1393.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Lispe nana Macquart, 1835 ( Pont 1986b: 188) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 211) described Lispa meridionalis from a single male: “ Unicum exemplar masculum … misit cl. Schembri [One male specimen … sent by Mr. Schembri]”, received from A. Schembri. This nominal species was described under the generic name ‘ Lispa ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Lispe Latreille, 1797 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 106).
