ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 86 (key), 91 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in alpibus pedemontanis [Piedmont ( Italy) Alps ]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing head, covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 4): Eumerus Mgn / alpinus Bellardi / 131; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 4): Eumerus Mgn / alpinus Bellardi / 131 / [illegible label]; 1 ♂, syntype ( MRSN: Box 53): E. alpinus Bell., Alpi ♂ / Eumerus nudus Loew, 1848 det. Sommaggio 2002, ♂; 2 ♂♂, syntypes ( MRSN: Box 53): E. alpinus Bell., Alpi ♂ / [illegible label] / Eumerus nudus Loew, 1848 det. Sommaggio 2002, ♂.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Eumerus olivaceus Loew, 1848 View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 160, Belcari et al. 1995a: 15); valid species ( Grković et al. 2015: 364).
REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 91) described Eumerus alpinus from just the male sex, giving a single measurement of length, despite there being six specimens in the type series found in this study: “ Marem speciei … captum semel mihi Prof. Bellardi misit [Prof. Bellardi sent me the male of the species collected once]”. Rondani attributed the species name to Bellardi. We found six male syntypes in this study. Sommaggio (2007: 123) incorrectly considered three female specimens in the MRSN as syntypes . Grković et al. (2015: 364) incorrectly stated that only one male is preserved in the MZUF and considered it as the holotype .
