CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Peck 1988: 164, Belcari et al. 1995a: 16); junior synonym of Eumerus funeralis Meigen 1822 View in CoL ( Speight et al. 1998: 402).

REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 93) described both sexes of Eumerus tuberculatus without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ bis marem et foeminam speciei inveni [I found the male and the female twice]”. Chris Thompson studied the MZUF type material in 1978, adding the label “ lectotype ” and “ paralectotype ” under the specimens, but without publishing a lectotype designation (F.C. Thompson, pers. comm., 2008). We found six syntypes in this study: two males and three females in the MZUF and one specimen (sex not determinable) in the MSNC. In order to promote nomenclatural stability, we give credit to F.C. Thompson and here designate as a lectotype for Eumerus tuberculatus Rondani, 1857 the MZUF male labeled as such by him.
