ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 86 (key), 92 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agri parmensis [ Parmese territory ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study. See Remarks.

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Eumerus Meigen, 1822 ( Peck 1988: 165) View in CoL ; valid species ( Belcari et al. 1995a: 15).

REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 92) described both sexes of Eumerus lasiops without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths. Two specimens in the MZUF are determined here to not belong to the type series: one from “ Etruria ” (= Tuscany), which is not the type locality, and one whose label bears a date of capture subsequent to the date of the original description. These are the only specimens labeled as Eumerus lasiops that we found in all the museums we visited.
